Malema fears SA could be ‘recolonised’ under Ramaphosa’s watch…

Can anyone do a good British accent? Julius Malema slammed Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday – while addressing a rather left-field concern.

As far as insults about leadership go, this was fairly creative from Julius Malema. The EFF leader expressed his utter disdain over Cyril Ramaphosa’s SONA 2022 speech, and he believes Mzansi now has a presidential crisis.

Ramaphosa ‘does not command respect’, Malema claims

Never shy of using bombastic rhetoric, Malema tucked into the ANC leader, blasting his four years in charge of the country. Juju made a geopolitical comparison to the unrest between Russia and Ukraine, suggesting that Cyril ‘is powerless’ when it comes to exercising his authority on the global stage.

“There is a pending war in Ukraine, that could plunge the whole world into conflict, but we cannot enter that space as peace keepers or advisors, because you do not command respect in the international community.”

Is South Africa vulnerable to recolonisation?

However, Malema feels that this perceived weakness also makes Ramaphosa a threat to domestic security, too. The 40-year-old says the head of state ‘has failed to build a capable state’ – making South Africa vulnerable to a ‘recolonisation attempt’ in the near future.

“We are more vulnerable to re-colonisation, because you refuse to build a developmental and capable state, able to conduct its own affairs. Your State of the Nation Address, like the previous ones, is not worth the paper it was written on, and we have come to acknowledge that you accepted a job you have no capacity of doing.”

Ramaphosa, EFF drift further away from common ground

It’s quite a leap Julius Malema is taking, here. But it sums up just how exasperated the EFF have become with Ramaphosa and his policies. Cyril and Juju haven’t seen eye-to-eye for a while, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned from the SONA Debate, it’s perhaps that the gulf in opinion between the pair has never been so vast…
