KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Premier, Sihle Zikalala has suffered another blow after he failed to make it to the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).

PEC additional members were nominated on Sunday, 24 July following the elective conference which started on Friday at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban that saw Siboniso Duma emerge as the new ANC KZN Provincial Chairperson.

Surprisingly, Zikalala is the only one from his slate who did not make it into the PEC. Outgoing provincial secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli, Nontembeko Boyce, Jomo Sibiya and Kwazi Mshengu made it to the PEC.

Nomusa Dube-Ncube who failed to meet the threshold in her bid to contest for the chairperson position also made it to the PEC as well eThekwini Municipality mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda.

Here is the new ANC KZN leadership, and notably KZN Health MEC is the only female.

  • Chairperson – Siboniso Duma
  • Deputy Chairperson – Nomagugu Simelane
  • Secretary – Bheki Mtolo
  • Deputy Secretary – Sipho Hlomuka
  • Treasurer –  Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba

The ANC KZN PEC members are: Peggy Nkonyeni, Mdumiseni Ntuli, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, Nonhlanhla Khoza, Nhlakanipho Ntombela, Super Zuma, Nomakiki Majola, Nobuhle Nkabane, Bheki Ntuli, Nolubabalo Mthembu, Ndodephethe Mthethwa, Sizophila Mkhize, Mafika Mndebele, Khonza Ngidi, Jomo Sibiya, Celiwe Madlopha, Sbongile Khathi, Nontembeko Boyce, Makhosi Zungu, Londolo Zungu, Vincent Madoda “Masenti” Myeni, Kwazi Mshengu, Mxolisi Kaunda, Mbali Frazer, Bongi Moloi, Amanda Bani, Mzi Zuma, Zinhle Cele and Tholi Gwala.

For many these results did not come as a surprise as delegates made it clear on Friday that they do not want to be led by Zikalala anymore as they were singing ‘Phuma Sihle, Phuma’. It is also no secret that many ANC members in KZN are still angry about Zikalala treated former President Jacob Zuma during his incarceration.
