Sibongile Mani runs for Treasure for WSU Convocation Committee

Sibongile Mani who was found guilty of stealing NSFAS’s R14 million is running for the treasure position for WSU Convocation Committee.

The infamous Sibongile Mani is campaigning to become treasure for Walter Sisulu University (WSU) convocation.

WSU’s Convocation assists the institution and the WSU foundation in raising funds.

Mani made headlines after around R14 million was ‘mistakenly’ deposited to her account in 2017 by Cape Town-based company, Intellimali.

The company was supposed to deposit R1, 400 to Mani’s account.

MANI FOUND GUILTY OF THEFT

Mani was found guilty of theft by the East London Regional Court in February 2022 after she spent over R800,000 of the money that she received.

She was convicted and sentenced to five years in jail.

HER LEGAL TEAM APPEALED THE CONVICTION AND SENTENCE

However, her defence team appealed the case. As a result, Mani escaped the inner walls of a prison cell for the time being.

Mani’s appeal may be heard on the second term between 11 April and 30 June in the Makhanda High Court, Eastern Cape, EWN reported.

TWITTER REACTS TO MANI’S NOMINATION

Her nomination recieved mixed emotions from Twitter users.

Some asked how is Mani going to be able to manage convocation finances when she spent R800 000 of the R14 million on unimportant things.

Some praised her for doing what is unpopular as a woman which is settling for less and contest for additional member.
