A man has been killed and two others were injured in a drive by shooting incident on the M4 near the Himalayas offramp in Jacob’s on Tuesday afternoon.

Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived at the scene of the shooting just after 1pm. The incident caused the man’s vehicle to crash on the M4.

He said KZN VIP Medical Paramedics and ALS Paramedics had arrived on the scene to find that a man in his late thirties had been killed in the drive by shooting incident on the freeway.

“On arrival, paramedics were met with an unfortunate scene where it is believed that the man in his thirties had been shot while driving on the M4 northbound by unknown occupants of another vehicle,” Jamieson said.

“He then lost control of the vehicle and came through the centre median and collided with a truck and another light motor vehicle leaving three people injured. Unfortunately, by the time ALS paramedics arrived at the scene the patient who had sustained gunshot wounds had succumbed to his injuries,” he said.

Jamieson said paramedics declared the man dead at the scene of the shooting.

Jamieson said that at this stage the events leading up to the incident were unknown, however, the SAPS had attended the scene of the crime and would be investigating further.

“Two other people sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban Hospital for the further treatment that they required,” he said.
