Horrific accident! Several, including teenagers, thrown off bakkie when it overturned

Thirteen people, including several teenagers, sustained various injuries when they were thrown off the back of a bakkie when it overturned in Kokozi, Fochville, on Saturday afternoon.

IT IS BELIEVED THE GROUP WERE MAKING THEIR WAY BACK FROM A FUNERAL

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said paramedics and local emergency services attended the scene at around 1 pm.

“Upon their arrival, they found the occupants of the vehicle scattered on the scene. Five adults were found with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

“Eight teenagers between the ages of 12 and 16 were also found on the scene. Two of them, a 15 and 16-year-old, sustained critical head injuries.”

Vermaak said two emergency medical helicopters were called to the scene to airlift them to the hospital.

“Three patients were transported by ambulance to Carletonville Provincial Hospital while two others used private transport to leave the scene.

“It is understood that they were making their way home after attending a funeral.”

He said the exact circumstances of how the incident occurred is not yet known. Local authorities attended the scene.

Meanwhile, also on Saturday, two men were injured when a light aircraft crashed in a field just off the M46 Roadway in Germiston.

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the latest aircraft accident happened around midday on Saturday.

“A man, aged approximately forty years old, has been left with critical injuries whilst another man of approximately thirty-five years old has been left with moderate injuries after a light aircraft crashed in Germiston on Saturday.”

He said paramedics responded to the scene just off the M46 Roadway at around midday to find the aircraft had crashed into a field.

“Two men were treated and stabilized on the scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance for further care.
