A 28-year-old serial rapist was caught after years of evading the police. He returned to Richard’s Bay, KwaZulu-Natal – one of the areas where he preyed on his victims – and was arrested on 26 October.

SERIAL RAPIST ARRESTED WHILE GAMBLING

The 28-year-old allegedly started his raping spree in 2016 when he attacked two women in Newark.

He then moved to KwaMbonanbi, Jozini and Richards Bay. Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said the suspect raped 10 women, including two young girls, in these areas. Multiple rape cases were opened and the dockets were transferred to the KZN Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.

“The suspect’s luck ran out when he was arrested on 26 October 2022 in Richards Bay,” said Gwala.

Detectives attached to the FCS unit received word that the serial rapist had returned and was gambling at a casino.

The suspect was arrested and detained at the Richard’s Bay police station before appearing before the local Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 27 October. He was remanded in custody until his next appearance.
