Could the first few calls that were made shortly after Senzo Meyiwa was shot be key in the ongoing murder trial?

Social media users think that the very first few calls that were made right after former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa was shot could be key in his murder trial.

The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is currently underway at the Pretoria High Court. Forensic officer, Sergeant Thabo Mosia has been under cross examination by the defence from Monday when the trial resumed.

Senzo Meyiwa’s brother, Sfiso who is also a cop has maintained from the onset that he didn’t believe that intruders would shoot his brother only and not rob the others who were in the house of anything.

One of Senzo’s friends reportedly called Sfiso and said “uSenzo udubulekile” meaning Senzo has been shot, but not on purpose/accidentally.  This is the same word the footballer’s then girlfriend Kelly Khumalo is said to have used when she told Meyiwa’s sister about the incident.

Social media users have now scrutinised the difference between udubulekile and udutshuliwe (which also means has been shot but not accidentally).

Speaking at a South African Human Rights Commission virtual event Sfiso said the friend who called him could not explain how he was shot.

“The person on the phone said Senzo has been shot. I asked how and they couldn’t answer. Another person grabbed the phone and said the same thing, I again asked what was Senzo doing with a firearm? They still couldn’t answer me, they just said Senzo has been shot, he’s lying down.”

This week, defence lawyer, Advocate Malesela Teffo went through the contents of the second docket on the murder of Meyiwa.

“The leading investigator in this case says it is nonsensical to say that people entered the house that night and shot Meyiwa.” Teffo said while reading the indictment of the case the State wanted to pursue against Kelly Khumalo and others who were in the house when Meyiwa was shot.

In that case all seven were accused of murder and defeating the ends of justice where in;  Longwe Twala (accused 1), Kelly Khumalo (accused 2), Gladness Khumalo (accused 3), Zandie Khumalo (accused 4), Tumelo Madlala (accused 5) Mthokozisi Twala (accused 6) and Maggie Phiri (accused 7).

Teffo said the indictment further stated that after realising that Meyiwa was shot, accused 1 to 6 hatched a plan to say that armed robbers had entered the house and shot Meyiwa.

Teffo also revealed that an eyewitness will come and testify that Meyiwa was allegedly shot by Khumalo by mistake.
