There has been a major breakthrough in one of South Africa’s most high profile murder mysteries, with arrests set to be made in connection with the fatal shooting of former Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa.

The late Buccaneers goalkeeper was gunned down in 2014 in full view of witnesses, but no one was brought to justice.

However, according to a report by Sunday World, arrests are now imminent with three well-known personalities, as well as a fourth suspect, set to be brought to book.

The publication reports that the quartert is facing a charge of defeating the ends of justice after they were taken to police headquarters and subjected to a lie detector test.

Sources who spoke to the paper revealed that the police were confident that they had gathered enough to take the case to court.

The suspects are believed to have given false information about what happened on the fateful night, and tampered with the evidence – with help from a top cop, who is part of the quartet in question.

The unnamed cop has, however, denied any wrongdoing.

“The scene was cleared and preserved. It was then decided that the case should be investigated by detectives and not the Hawks. So, if they say I fiddled with the investigations, then when?

Meyiwa was shot dead at his girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014.

According to witnesses on the day, the Bafana keeper lost his life in an attempted robbery.

Soon after his death, a suspect was apprehended by police, and later released after there was no evidence to pin him to the murder.

The man, Zamokuhle Mbatha, has gone on to file a lawsuit for wrongful arrest and defamation of characteragainst Police Minister Bheki Cele and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), which was filed on 13 May.
