The second University of Fort Hare bodyguard was killed in a car accident on Sunday morning.

THE SECOND BODYGUARD WAS KILLED IN THE ACCIDENT ON SUNDAY MORNING

According to a report by News24, the bodyguard was assigned to an executive member of the management of the University of Fort Hare.

University of Fort Hare spokesperson JP Roodt said they were all in a bit of shock.

FIVE PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED DURING THE INVESTIGATION

Earlier in April, five people were arrested during the investigation into the murders of the University of Fort Hare’s fleet manager, Peet Roets, and Vice-Chancellor Sakhela Buhlungu’s bodyguard of five years, Mboneli Vesele.

Roets, a beloved father, was shot and killed in a suspected hit in March last year, and Vesele was gunned down on 6 January this year.

The 60-year-old Roets was brutally gunned down in his vehicle during peak traffic in Gonubie, East London

The five arrested suspects, including two former UFH employees, were arrested on multiple charges of murder and attempted murder of employees attached to the university.

It is believed the bodyguard killed in the accident would have been a key witness to the cases before the court.

THIS COMES AFTER THE MULTIPLE MURDERS

Reports indicated that a source at the university revealed a bakkie drove into an institution-owned vehicle driven by the bodyguard.

The driver of the bakkie fled the scene, and the university’s private security tracked down the man and brought him to the King Williams Town Police Station.

Police could, however, not yet confirm the arrest or provide more information.

ANOTHER STAFF MEMBER WAS FOUND BOUND AND GAGGED IN HIS FLAT

Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a University of Fort Hare employee was found bound and gagged in his flat on Wednesday, 18 January. The police stressed that they do not believe the matter is related to the recent disturbing incidents at the higher learning institution.
