The South African Police Service (SAPS) and missing minors organisation, Pink Ladies, are calling on South Africans with any information regarding a missing baby to come forward.

13-month-old Eden Laird went missing in Alberton on Wednesday morning, 2 May 2018. At this stage, it is believed to be a kidnapping incident.

The Pink Ladies organisation has revealed that the child went walking with the family’s domestic worker at 8:45. The child and the domestic both did not return to the house.

To make things even more worrying, there are currently reports circulating that kidnappers have been in touch with the family. It is believed that the kidnappers have initially asked for more than R5m.

SAPS spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini hs told the media that they are unaware of the motive for the kidnapping at this stage. They are also following “several leads” to find the victims.

Two missing person reports have been filed.

“KIDNAPPING: Brackendowns GP Eden Laird 13 mths old 2 May 2018. Circumstances: At 8.45 am on the 2 May 2018 the domestic took Eden tied on her back with a light blue blanket for a walk and did not return. He was wearing a grey track suit pants with pumpkins on the bottom, top is a vest with granny sunshine written on it. He has a grey and navy striped jersey, navy & white socks with sail boats on them.” – Pink Ladies statement.

SA is currently seeing a resurgence of kidnappings. A recent report by Carte Blanche looked at the “brutal, organised crime syndicates” and how they demand multi-million rand ransoms.

The latest update from the Pink Ladies on Thursday at 13:00 indicated that Eden nor the domestic worker (whose name has not been made public) have been found.
