The deadline for 2023 school applications is around a corner – with 15 days left, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) issued a reminder to parents and caregivers.

2023 SCHOOL ADMISSIONS DEADLINE APPROACHING

WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said more than 90 000 people have already registered their children for the next school year and 43 000 of the enrolments are for Grade 8.

The deadline for applications, including Grade R, Grade 1 and 8 and transfers for learners in Grades 2 to 7 and 9 to 12, is on 15 April 2022.

“Applying after this date could affect their choice of placement and it will affect our planning,” said the WCED spokesperson.

HOW TO APPLY

Parents and caregivers can apply via the zero-rated WCED website – https://admissions.westerncape.gov.za – to apply online.

However, those who do not have access to the internet or the necessary equipment are welcome to apply via the department’s district offices or pop-ups at shopping malls and schools.

“Some schools have also communicated to parents within their communities that they will be opening their labs for parents to apply,” said Hammond.

The following documents are required (if any papers are lost or stolen parents will require a police affidavit):

  • The learner’s last official school report card
  • The learner’s ID, Birth Certificate, passport or a study permit (foreign learners) or a study permit.
  • An immunisation card (Road to Health Chart) for primary school learners.
  • Proof of residence – a rate account, lease agreement or affidavit. Retail and bank statements are not accepted.
