The police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for the alleged killers of Schalk David Pienaar, who was brutally shot in his home in Makopane on Monday evening, 19 September.

PIENAAR KILLED AT HOME

The Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, called on the community to help track down the 69-year-old’s killer.

“The perpetrator(s) must be hunted down and brought to book. We appeal to community members to assist with any information that can lead to the apprehension of these faceless criminal(s),” said Hadebe.

Lieutenant-Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a police spokesperson, said Pienaar was at home with his wife when an intruder arrived and opened fire.

“The Police were notified and on their arrival at the scene, preliminary investigation showed that the victim was shot several times and it seemed he tried to run back into the house but unfortunately he collapsed,” said the spokesperson.

According to the police, several spent bullet cartridges and projectiles were found in front and inside of the garage. The motive for the murder remains a mystery at this stage but a manhunt for the suspects is underway.

Pienaar was a well-regarded attorney and businessman in Mokopane. FF PLUS MPL and provincial leader of Limpopo, Marcelle Maritz, described him as a pillar in the community.

The deceased was a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Potgietersrus, as Mokopane was formally known, for the right-wing Conservative Party. He left politics in the early 1990s to focus on his legal practice, according to Maroela Media.

Members of the public with information that could help the investigation are encouraged to contact the police’s Mokopane Branch Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Smit, at 082-451-7213 or call the Crime Stop hotline at 08600-10111.
