The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) advised R350 grant beneficiaries to continue to verify their contact details.

SASSA says this must be done to ensure that the details are still correct. The agency issued a statement following the news that the Customer Care Unit received a number of calls.

The calls are from beneficiaries who were complaining that their contact details were changed.

A scam message is circulating on WhatsApp

According to SASSA, there is a WhatsApp message circulating. The message is from scammers who offer to assist applicants with doing their applications.

The scammers request the personal details of the beneficiaries. By surrendering your information to these scammers, they are capable of changing your contact details.

SASSA urges beneficiaries to do the applications themselves.

SASSA has since warned R350 grant beneficiaries to do their applications on their own.

“The Agency is warning R350 grant beneficiaries to do applications themselves or request a person that they trust and have access to see or visit them,”

the Agency said in a statement.

The Agency’s official customer care team cannot change the contact details of a beneficiary without them requesting it.

Here’s how to change your contact details

“The process of changing contact details requires the Identity number of the beneficiary and after that, the beneficiary receives the OTP number in the cell phone,” it said.

The official will request the OTP and that allows them to update the beneficiaries’ contact details.
