Tom Moyane has been weighed and found seriously wanting.

Sars commissioner and a close pal of Jacob Zuma, Tom Moyane’s been accused of letting ‘outside forces’ capture the revenue service.

In their new book, former Sars officials Adrian Lackay and Johan van Loggerenberg pretty much screw any chance of the alleged ‘rogue unit’ conspiracy from gaining much more traction.

The Sars ‘rogue unit’ conspiracy – which directly implicates Pravin Gordhan when he was head of the revenue service –  gained traction through several media reports and unconfirmed official statements, but there hasn’t exactly been much tangible proof that it existed.

Lackay, critical of Tom Moyane and the attacks on Gordhan, praised the now finance minister for his time at Sars.

“We were proud to play a small role to the development of our country. All of that changed when this character, Tom Moyane, was appointed by Jacob Zuma to be the Sars commissioner.”

ANC stalwart and chairperson of Anglo Gold Ashanti, Sipho Pityana took it one step further, saying that Sars had become captured under Moyane’s rule.

“Lehae la Sars is a house of shame. Its commissioner is increasingly emerging as a key figure in the state capture project. He is a facilitator of crime and corruption, and a national disgrace.”
