SABC wants to pay Hlaudi Motsoeneng a “special bonus” for losing R2 billion

Looks like Hlaudi is tired of paying himself bonuses, and would rather let the national broadcaster’s CEO James Aguma do it for him

SABC wants to pay Hlaudi Motso

Aguma wants dear leader Motsoeneng to be given a special bonus for negotiating a five-year deal between the SABC and Multichoice; that would see the broadcaster give Multichoice 24-hour news channel, the Encore channel, and access to its archives.

The Sunday Times reports that Aguma wants Motsoeneng rewarded for it, as he “single-handedly” negotiated the R570 million deal.  Experts, however, believe that the contract favours Multichoice more than the SABC and that the broadcaster is being underpaid for its services.

The newspaper’s report shows that E.tv gets R400 million a year just for its 24-hour news channel, which means that Hlaudi’s deal is essentially costing the SABC a potential R2 billion over five years.

Not one to be bothered by pesky facts, Aguma believes Motsoeneng deserves “compensation for the success of the existing contract.”
