Elderly couple – aged 84 and 96 – both murdered in their Cape Town home

An utterly senseless, heartwrenching crime.

Cape Town

Aubrey Jackson (L) and Rosalie Bloch (R) were discovered in their home by their son, Sean.

The suburb of Rosebank in Cape Town has been rocked by the double-murder of Rosalie Bloch (84), and Aubrey Jackson (96).

Rosalie had made a name for herself as a member of the Black Sash organisation. They provided help and legal representation to black citizens who were detained under apartheid laws. As reported by IOL, Aubrey had been her husband of the last 30 years.

The couple were tragically discovered by their son Sean Bloch on Saturday morning. They had been tied up and strangled by their assailants.

One of their other sons is Graeme Bloch – an education expert who lectured at UCT and who made a formidable anti-apartheid force with activist partner Cheryl Carolous.

ANC react to “heinous” crime in Cape Town

The ANC have moved to strongly condemn the “cowardly evil deed”. Issuing a statement shortly after the killing, the party insisted that more must be done to root out the criminal elements of society:

“We strongly condemn the cowardly act visited on the defenceless and elderly. It is disheartening to note that we still have amongst us, those who are determined to trample on other people’s right to live, driven by selfish and cruel intentions.

“Law enforcement agencies must indeed leave no stone unturned in their quest to ensure that perpetrators of this heinous crime are caught and face the full might of the law.”

“We express our sincere condolences to comrades Graeme Bloch, his wife and fellow activist [and former politician] Cde Cheryl Carolus and the Bloch family on their untimely loss.”

“The ANC wishes Rosalie Bloch and Aubrey Jackson eternal peace.”

A double-murder investigation has been opened by SAPS, as forensic teams conclude their investigations at the property. With an increased amount of public interest in this case, there’ll be significant pressure to bring these criminals to justice.
