A 44-year-old woman almost had her hand amputated during a home invasion on Thursday on Flamingo Way in Dawncrest, KwaZulu-Natal.

FAMILY ATTACKED WHILE HAVING DINNER

While a family was having dinner around 19:00, they heard a noise in the yard.

When a 50-year-old man approached the front door to investigate what is happening, he was pointed with a gun by the robber.

The intruder instructed him to the open the door and the man complied.

“He was then joined by three other robbers,”

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson, Prem Balram said.

Once inside the house the suspects assaulted the couple and their 21-year-old son.

They ransacked the residence in search of valuables.

ROBBERS SOUGHT FOR SPATE OF HOME INVASIONS

The woman struggled to take off her gold bangles, when the robbers noticed that they threatened to amputate hands.

Balram said the robbers stole cellphones, a laptop, cash, jewellery and a CZ 83 pistol from a safe.

“According to witnesses, they noticed a silver VW Polo (registration unknown) reversing into the property, which sped off minutes later.”

He further cautioned the public to be on high alert as the robbers are believed to be sought for a spate of home invasions.

Furthermore he said, the suspects’ modus operandi is to lure their victims to the front door.

They will then be confronted by an armed suspect who will threaten to shoot them if he is not let in.

He said the robbers are extremely dangerous and do not hesitate to use force on their victims.

WOMAN STABBED DURING HIJACKING

In a separate incident, a 27-year-old woman was stabbed on her foot during a hijacking on Sunkist Drive in Buffelsdraai Friday afternoon.

The woman was travelling on a narrow road when two men stepped in front of her silver Toyota Etios

“One of the suspects fired a shot and forced her to stop. They dragged her out of the car and stabbed her on her left foot before they sped off in her vehicle.

“The victim limped to a nearby business where she sought assistance,”

Balram said.

Members of RUSA are searching for the vehicle.
