Those charitable heroes from Gift of the Givers have once again put their hats in the ring, to help solve the problems our elected officials simply cannot. The largest disaster response NGO based on the continent has confirmed that it will spring into action – and help South Africa preserve its vulnerable food supply, following widespread riots.
Gift of the Givers to help in aftermath of riots
The unrest, which has crippled economic activity in KZN and Gauteng, is likely to have a major knock-on effect for the rest of the country. Trading at major ports, and distribution via key highways have both been disrupted. Food and fuel shortages are looking likely, but GOTG is hoping to alleviate the burden.
In a statement issued via the Organisation for Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA), Gift of the Givers say that their priority is ‘to protect large-scale food distribution facilities’, in order to keep the supply chain up and running at the height of this crisis. The group has also asked for public donations, so they can fund their proposed interventions…

Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, the founder of Gift of the Givers, issued a rallying call earlier on Thursday. He has implored citizens of Mzansi to donate to their cause, and appealed to that national ‘sense of ubuntu’ that redeems every one of us:
“This is South Africa, and that means that the spirit of ubuntu and humanity has already triumphed. The process of rebuilding our livelihoods and our economy has begun with fervour. For now, intervention is financial only, to protect full warehouses from being targeted by the last remnants of our traitorous elements.”
