RhodesMustFall protester accepts £40 000 Rhodes Scholarship, some Brits noticed
Folks in the UK aren’t too happy with Johannesburg-based Joshua Nott, who was instrumental in the anti Rhodes campaign while at UCT, but was quick to accept more than half a million Rand in funding from the Rhodes Scholarship.
Joshua Nott, a 23 year-old UCT alum who played a very public role in the #RhodesMustFall campaign that ultimately got rid of the loathed mining magnate’s statue, has found himself on the wrong side of a couple of hundred very pissed off Brits.

Even before he’s set off for the UK, Nott is being called out in the comments section of a piece by the Mail Online, which reports that the student has accepted a £40 000 scholarship from a fund set up in the name of a man he hates.
According to the paper, Nott — a private-school educated student who reportedly worked as publicist for the RhodesMustFall campaign — said he didn’t agree with the statue of Cecil Rhodes outside Oxford’s Oriel College, but added that he wouldn’t be joining the RhodesMustFall campaign in the UK.
Folks who commented on the article didn’t take kindly to Nott accepting such a sizeable chunk of cash in the name of Rhodes.

“He is typical of the leftie-luvvie hypocrites that we have to suffer these days. His principles are put on “PAUSE” once he is chasing self-interest and the Big God Dollar.
Sc*m like this is denying a place to a British person, even if these institutions discriminate against people because they are deemed to be too old to study. Isnt that right Birmingham & Sheffield universities ?.
It’s not just that he is a hypocrite, he is a rich hypocrite who does not even need the money. Surely that money should have been given to a student from a poor family who could never afford to pay for him/her to study at Oxford.
Apart from a hypocritical personal absence of moral principles, shouldn’t the scholarship trustees have disqualified him for his open contempt and public agitation against it’s founder ?”
