Today the High Court in Pretoria granted a request by AfriForum to have an interdict placed on EFF leader Julius Malema. The interdict effectively blocks Malema from publicly inciting land grabs, if he does make such comments, Malema could potentially be arrested.

This has been a long process for AfriFourm, the group originally applied for the interdict in Novmeber, since then Malema has called for land occupation on multiple occasions.

“If Julius Malema or the EFF or any of the party’s affiliates make any public statements calling on individuals to occupy land illegally, then that would be a contravention of the court order. They will be liable for criminal charges.” – AfriForum’s Armand Greyling

AfriBusiness, the group’s business business sector labelled private land ownership one of the quintessential for a successful economy.

“Private land ownership is one of the cornerstones of a flourishing economy that is based on the free-market system”

The EFF is yet to respond, when they do though, expect the usual fiery remarks.
