Suspects who murdered and dumped a security officer arrested

Two men have been arrested by Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) on Queen Nandi Drive in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal in connection with the murder of a security officer.  

The two were arrested on Friday morning after a reaction officer was allegedly shot dead and dumped in a manhole. 

SUSPECTS WHO MURDERED AND DUMPED SECURITY OFFICER ARRESTED 

The 33-year-old reaction officer was shot in the head and dumped in a manhole while on patrol at a business park. Backup officers were dispatched to the premises after a pool of blood was discovered and the body of the deceased was thereafter located.

Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson Prem Balram said officers interviewed several individuals and scrutinised their fallen colleagues’ movement reports. 

Balram said a man known to the security officer was identified as a possible suspect. Officers approached the individual who confirmed during an interview that he and an accomplice ambushed & shot the victim. 

“They then removed the concrete cover from the manhole and dumped the reaction officer down the drain. They thereafter  abandoned his golf cart approximately 100 meters away from the scene. 

“The suspect was escorted to his accomplice’s room where a Norinco 9mm pistol used in the murder was recovered. The second suspect is a truck driver and had proceeded on a delivery. Reaction Officers concealed themselves in the premises until he returned. Heavily armed officers surrounded his truck and placed him under arrest.”

Both suspects and the firearm were reportedly handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation.
