Cape Town railway cop shot and killed near Philippi train station

A 49-year-old Cape Town police officer was shot through his window while driving in Browns Farm on Wednesday evening.

A 49-year-old police officer attached to the Rapid Rail Unit was shot and killed in Browns Farm, Nyanga in Cape Town on Wednesday, 1 June.

CAPE TOWN COP SHOT THROUGH WINDOW

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Novella Potelwa said the officer was driving towards the Philippi railway station when unknown suspects shot him through the window.

“He died on the scene,” said Potelwa. Crime scene experts combed the scene in Ngulube Street, Browns Farm.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) is investigating a case of murder.

The identity of the dead police officer will be released once his next of kin have been informed.
