Carl Niehaus: ‘Ramaphosa should get arrested, not me!’

President Cyril Ramaphosa should be getting arrested for his Phala Phala farm saga instead, Carl Niehaus rants on after his court victory.

Suspended ANC member Carl Niehaus has his eyes set on President Cyril Ramaphosa, calling for his arrest. This is after Niehaus was acquitted of violating Covid-19 rules during the arrest of Jacob Zuma at Estcourt prison last year.

#RAMAPHOSAMUSTGO! AS HE’S AN AGENT – NIEHAUS CLAIMS

Niehaus has accused the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of dragging their feet to arrest and charge Ramaphosa for the alleged theft at his Phala Phala Farm.

Former State Security boss Arthur Fraser laid a criminal complaint against Ramaphosa for allegedly covering up the theft and concealing millions of dollars on the farm.

Niehaus describes the lack of criminal action against Ramaphosa as “nothing less than a travesty of justice.”

“I am clear that Cyril Ramaphosa is an agent of imperialism and white monopoly capital and I urge every South African… to support the #RamaphosaMustGo! broad civil society campaign. We must never allow ourselves to be intimidated, nor silenced,” Niehaus said.

NIEHAUS PLANS TO SUE THE STATE

With the help of Advocate Dali Mpofu, Niehaus plans to sue the state for his arrest of the “farcical Covid-19 case” against him.

“It is most certainly not where the matter ends… I have therefore consulted with Advocate Dali Mpofu, and I am grateful that he has accepted to act on my behalf in order to sue the state for wrongful arrest and malicious prosecution. I will now proceed immediately to file these charges against the state.”

NIEHAUS PRAISES COURTS FOR DROPPING CHARGES

Niehaus praised the magistrate who dropped the charges against him. Nearly a year after his arrest, the magistrate accepted an application of acquittal by his lawyer, Eric Mabuza.

Mabuza is also known for representing Zuma during his tiff with then chair of the state capture commission of inquiry, Raymond Zondo.

Niehaus said the magistrate had “harsh words” for the police and the NPA.

“[She was] asking why only I was arrested and charged, while earlier on the same day, when I was arrested, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola, addressed a crowd in front of the very same Estcourt prison, and no one, including the Minister, was arrested or charged.”

This, according to Niehaus, was evidence that he was selectively targeted for persecution.

“I thank the magistrate for her courage to carry out her duties without fear or favour. It is good that we still have officers of the court that do not allow themselves to be intimidated, used and captured. She stands as a shining example and beacon of hope against those in the judiciary who have sold their souls…”
