ANC President and Deputy President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa has been working his business and negotiating skills in Davos for the last few days. The World Economic Forum (WEF) is coming to a close and Ramaphosa has been leading Team South Africa in trying to repair the global image of South Africa.

Ramaphosa had everything from jokes about Donald Trump to the answers to the tough questions. According to reports from those in the meeting rooms, the world was believing him.

Journalists were allowed into the dinner. Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba was the MC for the night and gave Ramaphosa a great introduction before he took over to woo the world’s financially important people.

Before he got into the politics and big issues, the ANC president had time to share a personal goal and show how serious he was at the same time.

Ramaphosa said that the ANC Elective conference gave him and the ANC NEC a mandate to build the country into an investment destination with social partners. While many have spoken about WEF nation leaders looking to push back against Donald Trump’s populist narrative, Ramaphosa did his part as he spoke of a shared future.

“We in South Africa known what a fractured world is, resulting in poverty. We can draw lessons from what is happening in Davos.”

Then he got onto corruption, a huge issue for any potential investors. He emphasised that Zuma was told to deal with the Eskom board “immediately, not next week”.

Ramaphosa, like the NEC, was also keen to emphasise that he as ANC leader is effectively the person telling President Zuma what to do.

You can see Ramaphosa briefly explain all of these issues in the video below.
