Convicted crime boss Radovan Krejcir is convinced the head of the Leeuwkop maximum security prison, Anthony Gina, is trying to have him killed.

An alleged clandestine plot against Krejcir

His fears brought him to apply for a transfer away from the Bryanston facility but it was rejected.

“I am fearing for my life,” Krejcir said in papers filed with the Gauteng High Court.

His case was corroborated by fellow inmate Vusi Mkhefa, who claimed he was approached by Gina to assist in poisoning Krejcir.

“He transferred me to the single cells to be close to the cell of Mr Krejcir. Gina informed me he would provide me with a substance to put in the food of Mr Krejcir,” said Mkefa in an affidavit according to the Saturday Star.

“I would be placed in a cell where I would be in a position to use the milk and sugar before I pass it to Mr Krejcir. Mr Gina was vague as to the nature of the substance.

“He requested me to keep the substance on my body. He suggested that I place it in my anus wrapped in plastic, when searches of the cell are conducted.”

Case is dismissed

However, the case starts to fall on a bit of shaky ground from that point. Apparently, Mkefa lost his nerve and handed the poison over to Krejcir along with his admission.

The substance was never reported or handed over to authorities and Gina has rubbished the claims.

The judge of the case dismissed the application and instructed Krejcir to pay the legal costs of the action.

The former crime kingpin’s daughter-in-law has not been convinced, though, and is as certain of a plot as the man himself.

“Now, more than ever, we feel like his life is in genuine danger,” she told the Saturday Star.

“We are incredibly worried because we are sure that Gina will try to find another way to do something to Radovan.

“We are saddened by the fact we can now clearly see that Radovan cannot receive a fair trial in South Africa.”

Repeated attempts to leave prison

Krejcir is serving 35 years in prison following his convictions for drug trafficking, kidnapping, and attempted murder.

This is not the first run-in he has had with authorities since his incarceration. He has repeatedly tried to get moved or released into house arrest for medical reasons and, in June 2019, he even threatened to escape if he was not allowed to return to the Czech Republic.
