Komani: Grim discovery of human bones sparks police investigation

Police in Komani are attempting to solve a puzzling mystery, after human bones surfaced near a dam in the region of Ezibeleni.

Authorities in Ezibeleni near Komani (formerly Queenstown) have made a gruesome discovery this weekend, after a member of the public alerted them to a bizarre scene. Eastern Cape SAPS have confirmed that human bones were unearthed at a nearby dam.

Police are now mulling the best way to proceed, but are yet to identify this as a murder investigation. Along with the bones, some clothing and shoes were found near the discovery site. Those in the Ezibeleni area are being asked to come forward if a male family member of theirs has gone missing in recent weeks.

They are also encouraging anyone who may know something about this incident to share their knowledge, even if that means doing so under the condition of anonymity. Queenstown SAPS issued a statement on the matter, confirming that the horrendous discovery was made by someone looking for their livestock:

“Ezibeleni SAPS are urging anyone who may be missing a male relative to contact them. This follows the recovery of human bones on Saturday 7 March 2020 at about 13:00 next to the dam near Matanzima Farm. Police were notified by a community member who was looking for his stock.

“Upon arrival they found the bones and some clothing items close by, a pair of blue Jean, All Star Tekkies and yellow T-shirt. Police in Komani appeal to anyone who may be missing a relative or anyone who can assist the police investigation to contact Captain Mzwandile Fose on 07950 89668 or any nearest police station.

“Information can also be shared on SAPS Crime Stop 08600 10111. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish to. All information will be treated with strict confidence.”
