Public warned against false information after child is kidnapped

Police have warned the public abour curculating false information of suspects after an 11-year-old child was kidnapped and raped

Some individuals on social media platforms are circulating a message regarding an incident that occurred on Saturday evening, 18 February 2023, in Brits where an 11-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped in Maboloka Village near Letlhabile.

The SAPS management has noted this with great concern.

Police search for girl after kidnapping

Following the report, the police launched a search for both the girl and the suspect.

On Sunday morning, 19 February 2023, the girl was found.

The suspect who had also raped the minor ran into the bushes after realizing that the police were pursuing him.

Various police units including the air wing and mounted unit, as well as security companies and civil organizations, participated in the search operation.

The police and family have maintained close contact, and regular feedback is provided.

Public warned against false information

The public is warned that circulating false information about an alleged suspect named Kagiso, along with his photograph, in any manner including publishing it, is unacceptable and discouraged.

This type of behavior can incite violence, including mob justice attacks.

The police will enforce the law and will not be distracted by any amount of intimidation, lawlessness, or disrespect for the rule of law.
