The round of 32 in the Nedbank Cup continues this weekend as the action resumes on Friday, following midweek fixtures which produced one big upset.

Polokwane City became the first big casualty as they crashed out of the competiton, courtesy of first division strugglers Ubuntu Cape Town.

Another side from the Mother City, Cape Town City were also victorious as they claimed a 1-0 victory away to Bidvest Wits in the pouring rain, thanks to an early strike from new signing Matthew Rusike, while took AmaZulu a penalty shootout to wade off the challenge of Mthatha Bucks, after the game ended 2-2 in regular time.

Friday, 9 February

Cape Town All Stars v Mamelodi Sundowns, Athlone Stadium – 20:00

Mamelodi Sundowns return to Athlone Stadium for the second Friday in a row, this time taking on first division side Cape Town All Stars in the first of the weekend’s fixtures.

The Brazilians were stunned by Golden Arrows in the round of 16 of the previous edition of this particular tournament and will hope to progress further this time around.

Saturday, 10 February

Swallows FC v Maritzburg United, Dobsonville Stadium – 15:30

Maritzburg United travel to Soweto to take on Swallows at the Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday.

Having achieved the unwanted distinction of being relegated from three leagues in successive seasons, the home side have rebranded and are currently plying their trade in the fourth tier of SA football. They will no doubt be looking to make a mark in this competition as a reminder to football lovers of what used to be.

Steenberg United v Orbit College, Parow Park – 15:30

Parow Park will host a battle of the dirt-trackers as Steenberg United take on Orbit College.

The hosts have in their ranks former Orlando Pirates striker Lennox Bacela who has hoisted this particular trophy before with the Buccaneers.

Phiva Young Stars v Chippa United, Kabokweni Stadium – 15:30

Chippa United have a potential banana skin to navigate as they travel to face lower league side Phiva Young Stars on Saturday.

Orlando Pirates v Ajax Cape Town, Orlando Stadium – 20:15

Pirates will look for revenge as they take on Ajax Cape Town for the second time in ten days following a humiliating 3-0 defeat when these two sides met in league action.

Super Eagles v Free State Stars, Goble Park – 20:15

Free State Stars are in derby action as they tackle Super Eagles at Goble Park on Saturday night.
