Prince William once said there are too many people in the world

What do you do if you think there are too many people in the world? Have three kids, obviously.

Prince William, who became a dad for the third time this week, once said that the rapid growth in human population could have a terrible impact on the world.

Speaking as a royal patron of the Tusk Trust, at the charity’s gala dinner in London in November last year, William was quoted by the Telegraph as saying:

“In my lifetime, we have seen global wildlife populations decline by over half,” he said.

“We are going to have to work much harder, and think much deeper, if we are to ensure that human beings and the other species of animal with which we share this planet can continue to co-exist.

“Africa’s rapidly growing human population is predicted to more than double by 2050 – a staggering increase of three and a half million people per month.

“There is no question that this increase puts wildlife and habitat under enormous pressure.

“Urbanisation, infrastructure development, cultivation – all good things in themselves, but they will have a terrible impact unless we begin to plan and to take measures now.”

Ja, guys… he’s measuring a WHOLE continent’s population growth here.

In 2017, the UK population was projected to increase by 3.6 million (5.5%) over the next ten years, from an estimated 65.6 million in mid-2016 to 69.2 million in mid-2026. But, keep in mind, the UK is but one tiny island compared to a whole entire continent…

Anyway…

The view that the world risks overpopulation is one shared by William’s grandfather, Prince Philip.

Back in 2008, Prince Philip said in an interview with Sir Trevor McDonald:

“The food prices are going up – everyone thinks it’s to do with not enough food, but it’s really that demand is too great, too many people.”

“It’s a little embarrassing for everybody, no one quite knows how to handle it. Nobody wants their family life to be interfered with by the government.”

Do as we say not as we do, right?
