After a succession battle for the throne and factions dominated the Zulu Royal Family shortly after Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu’s passing, an heir has finally been chosen. Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi confirmed that the Zulu nation has a new king, a successor to king Goodwill Zwelithini, Prince Misuzulu Zulu.
The Traditional Prime Minister held a 2-hour-long delayed press briefing outside the KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace in KwaNongoma on Saturday afternoon.
During the briefing, Buthelezi said that the family met on Saturday morning to discuss the way forward and the “royal rebels” together with other senior members of the Zulu Royal Family pledged support for the incoming king.
“On our side as the Royal Family and the nation, the king is already on his throne. There are formalities that should follow on the provincial government’s side concerning his installation. If some within the Royal Family wish to contest the will of the late Queen Regent, they are free to do so. In fact, I heard rumours that some were seeking legal advise regarding the matter and looking for ways to stop me from speaking on behalf of the Royal Family.”
