Prasa has announced its Group CEO Zolani Matthews has been placed on precautionary suspension.

According to the rail agency, its board met on Thursday, 18 November 2021, to discuss Matthews fate. While it doesn’t give much detail as to why Matthews has been placed on suspension, it says it is related to a security breach and other contractual obligations associated with his employment contract.

“By consensus, the Board resolved that Mr. Zolani Kgosietsile Matthews should be placed on precautionary suspension to allow detailed probing of the matter at hand to be concluded in his absence,” said Prasa spokesperson Andiswa Makanda in a brief statement on Friday, 19 November 2021.

It hasn’t been an easy year for Prasa – in addition to its financial woes, it has also had to deal with a battle between its board and several executives.

Earlier this year, the Labour Court set aside the dismissal of three exes. Prasa’s former Group Executive for legal, risk and compliance Martha Ngoye, former Chief Operations Officer (COO) Nkosinathi Khena and Tiro Holele, CEO of Autopax, had their contracts terminated, for having been in the employ of Pprasa beyond the five-year limit.
