So, we all had our tickets ready for the Powerball jackpot on Friday, and then it rolled over again… You might want to set up a reminder to purchase another ticket next week because the draw is now worth R95 million.

No, really. Don’t forget. The next draw is 27 April 2021.

Powerball jackpot update – 23 April 2021

Ithuba, the national lottery operator, confirmed that there was no winner for the draw on Friday, 23 April 2021. That means that the Powerball jackpot will roll over for the 14th time.

While a jackpot of R95 million would offer a welcome reprieve from the day-to-day grind, it’s still not the biggest jackpot in South Africa. Back in February 2019, the jackpot rolled over to R210 million.

The record before that? R145m back in August 2018. So, get your ticket ready and the next lucky winner could very well be you. And it’s about time 2021 took a turn for the better, don’t you think?

Lucky 2020 for some

Despite 2020 likely being the most tumultuous year of our generation, the lives of five lucky winners changed forever. The first millionaire was made in February when a player from Roodepoort won R114 million.

Luck was on that person side, considering they played with just R5. In April, another player from KwaZulu-Natal walked away with a jackpot of R135 million. And two more jackpot winners were crowned in June 2020.

On Tuesday 3 June, one lucky player won R77 million in the PowerBall draw, followed by a jackpot of R15 million going to a Lotto Plus player on Wednesday 1 July. Talk about luck!
