Bridget Masango, MP – DA Shadow Minister of Social Development has updated that the Postbank plans on paying SASSA beneficiaries all their money by tomorrow, Friday, 9 December.

“Just some feedback. After reaching out to the CEO of SASSA, asking for a progress report for the many beneficiaries who are stranded with no food for their families, I have just received a call from Mr Lucas Ndala, Interim CEO of Postbank – giving his assurances that by tomorrow morning all the money that need to be in beneficiaries’ accounts will be there,” she explained.
“There was a long technical process he outlined which I am not qualified to repeat BUT what I appreciated is that tomorrow morning there should be no problems. We will monitor the situation and escalate if a need arises.”

DA MP CRITICISES MINISTER LINDIWE ZULU
The good news comes after Masango criticised Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu for failing to steer the SASSA ship forward.
“It is high time that the Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, earned her salary and addressed SASSA’s many flaws once and for all. SASSA must do what the act that established it 16 years ago says – social grant payments must be paid consistently and correctly to all recipients without fail. The repeated failure to pay recipients on time shows that it is time for SASSA to institutionalise grant payments and insource this function again. Beneficiaries cannot continue to suffer day after day, year after year because the Minister and the Agency that are meant to serve them are inept and callous. The people of South Africa deserve better,” she said.
Although this is somewhat a win for the beneficiaries, Postbank shared disappointing news for cardholders. It announced on Tuesday that beneficiaries who use Postbank or SASSA gold cards wouldn’t be able to withdraw their grants from ATMs for December due to criminals targeting the network.
