The Kaampmuiden police and members of the Komatipoort K9 seized drugs worth R53 million and arrested two suspects during a stop-and-search operation on Tuesday 17 January 2023.

POLICE SEIZED R53 MILLION WORTH OF DRUGS

Two suspects, 32-year-old Reginald Francisco De Maura Tomàs and 30-year-old Reginaldo Joào Tomàs, was arrested for dealing and possession of drugs.

Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, and the suspects were arrested on Tuesday at about 10:00 at the Nkomazi Toll Plaza, as reported by Arrive Alive.

“It took a blink of an eye for the police dog to respond to the drugs concealed in different compartments of their South African registered vehicle with Gauteng registration plates.”

MPUMALANGA IS NO SMOOTH PASSAGE FOR DRUG DEALERS

Manamela said preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicle was not reported stolen.

Both suspects briefly appeared at Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 18 January 2023 and were remanded in custody.

They were due to appear in the Low’s Creek Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday.

Manamela applauded the police members for their outstanding work.

He said police will not allow criminals to use Mpumalanga as a smooth passage for drug traffickers.

In an unrelated incident, the Eldorado Park police arrested a 35-year-old man dealing and possession of drugs and dagga.

On Tuesday, 10 January 2023, police were conducting a stop and search operation along Alberg Street in Extension 4 Eldorado Park when they noticed a man behaving suspiciously. He was standing next to a red Volkswagen Golf.

Police Spokesperson Sergeant Roxanne Gibb said police found three transparent plastic bags containing mandrax tablets in the car’s boot.

The members also found small zip lock bags containing dagga and R20 00 in cash.

Gibb said police counted 3 081 mandrax tablets and 879 zip lock bags of dagga.

“All items were confiscated from the suspect, and he was detained for possession and dealing in drugs and dagga.”
