The quick action by the Northern Cape South African Police Search and Rescue team saved a man from drowning in the reservoir in Delportshoop on Monday at about 18:30 on 20 March 2023.

SECURITY ALERTED POLICE TO THE MAN IN THE RESERVOIR

The Search and Rescue team responded to a drowning in progress in Delportshoop following information that a 19-year-old man was inside the reservoir.

The man had apparently jumped into the reservoir on Monday night. He left his clothes on the outside of the reservoir.

POLICE SAVED A MAN FROM DROWNING IN A RESERVOIR

A security guard on the premises spotted his clothes and other belongings and contacted the police.

The Provincial Commander of the Search and Rescue Team, Captain John Seeley, traveled from Kimberley and executed the rescue with the help of his team.

A police officer saved the naked man from drowning in the reservoir. According to the police, the man clung onto a pole when Captain Seeley retrieved him from the reservoir. He was unharmed but traumatized. The police say the man had no visible injuries on his person.

The management of the Northern Cape Provincial Police Commissioner thanked Capt. John Seeley and the Search and Rescue team for their bravery.

They say the swift response of Captain Seeley and his team to get to the reservoir saved the man’s life.
