Top community figures in Eldorado Park have long complained about Lapland, which is said to be home to numerous gangs involved in criminal enterprises. Recently, the scourge of cable theft has been lucrative for these groups.

Earlier on Thursday morning, Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie confirmed he and his supporters would be paying a visit to the village, continuing their drive to force illegal immigrants out of South Africa:

After receiving several tip-offs, SAPS also ensured they’d be present in Lapland this morning. Five people have been arrested in the settlement today, all believed to be undocumented foreign nationals.

It’s also understood that the gruesome murder of five people near the Golden Highway this week is linked to people who are living and operating out of the Lapland settlement. SAPS are likely to remain in this area for a while, as officers believe that members of the Basotho gang are responsible for the bloodshed.
