Police launch manhunt after Summerstrand post office hit by robbers

Three armed robbers allegedly locked post office employees and a customer in the bathroom before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The Eastern Cape police are on the hunt for three armed suspects who allegedly held up a post office in Summerstrand, Gqeberha on Tuesday morning, 2 August.

POST OFFICE ROBBED

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the provincial Organised Crime Investigation unit is tasked with tracking down the suspects.

The trio allegedly entered the post office at 9:30 on Tuesday and held the staff at gunpoint before demanding to be let into the back of the building.

“The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash. The employees and a customer were locked in the bathroom while the suspects fled on foot,” said the police spokesperson. No injuries were reported during the incident and no shots were fired.

DISMEMBERED BODY FOUND IN CAPE TOWN

In an unrelated incident in Cape Town, a dismembered body was found in Belhar on Tuesday morning.

Passersby alerted the police to a pair of human legs lying on the pavement and when members headed to the scene they found the dead body of a man in an open field. Both the man’s legs were chopped off below the knee.
