Police said a North West officer was dismissed after he allegedly impregnated an inmate who was awaiting trial for murder.

A North West police officer was dismissed after he allegedly impregnated an inmate who was awaiting trial for murder.
IT ALLEGEDLY HAPPENED IN THE HOLDING CELLS BEFORE HER COURT APPEARANCE
According to police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh the woman has since been sentenced to 30 years behind bars for murder.
The officer was dismissed at the end of last month during a Departmental Trial in terms of the SAPS Discipline Regulations, 2016.

“The incident allegedly took place at the Stilfontein police station’s holding cells in October 2020.
“The woman had been brought in from the Rooigrond Correctional Centre to the Stilfontein holding cells, ahead of her court appearance.”
Myburgh said in March 2021, they discovered that she was pregnant, and correctional services reported the incident to SAPS.
“No criminal case had been lodged against the officer.”
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, said unethical behaviour, leading to the disrepute of the South African Police Service, will not be tolerated.

Meanwhile an Eastern Cape woman was beaten to death with a hammer in Gqeberha on Saturday.
THE ATTACKED COMMITTED SUICIDE AFTER THE FATAL ATTACK
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said it is alleged that at approximately 19:00, in Mpongololo Street, Joe Slovo, the woman, and a man had an argument.
“During the argument, the man attacked her with a hammer. The woman sustained serious facial injuries and died on the scene.”
Van Rensburg said after the attack, it is further alleged that the man hanged himself.
“A suicide note was found. He was identified as Xolisa Gcwekana (32).”
