“I have just returned from the scene of a terrible accident on the R617 near Howick South,” he said.

Among the 11 killed, included a police officer and the owner of one of the local security companies.

“A minibus, 2 bakkies and an SUV were involved. Police, fire, search and rescue and traffic police [were] on scene.
3 victims are in hospital with minor to critical injuries including a second police officer.
It is not a pretty sight with body parts and pieces of human flesh strewn across a 70m area,” Pappas explained.
