South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh said Otsile Juell Boinamo allegedly raped a 30-year-old wheelchair-bound woman in Bodibe Village near Itsoneng on Friday, 22 October.

According to the police report, the woman visited her friends before going to a tavern on Friday night.

“The woman was about to leave the tavern at about 19:00 when Boinamo volunteered to take her home,” said Myburgh.

Instead of accompanying her home as promised, Boinamo took the woman to his place of residence in Zone 1 where he allegedly raped her.

The woman escaped from Boinamo on Saturday, 23 October, by crawling from his house into the street. A passerby helped her and called the police. Subsequently, a case of rape was opened for investigation and Boinamo eventually surrendered himself to police custody.

The accused appeared before the Itsoneng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 27 October on a rape charge. His next court appearance is expected on Thursday, 4 November, when he will make a formal bail application.
