Operation Restore: Police arrest over 200 foreigners in Gauteng raids
Police have confirmed over 200 foreign nationals illegally in SA have been arrested during Operation Restore in Gauteng.

The Gauteng division of the South African Police Service has kicked off Operation Restore in the province, confirming that a clampdown is underway to combat illegal foreign nationals in the country.
Gauteng police kick off widespread operation
In addition to the illegal immigrants, drug dealers and citizens driving without licence are also being targeted in the operation. Taking to social media, the SA Police Service revealed that the operation had kicked off in the early hours of Friday morning.
“#OperationRetore started at 03:00 this morning and is taking place simultaneously within the JHB District. This op is aimed at restoring law and order and also restoring public confidence in the police.”

Furthermore, the operation is led by a number of high ranking officers in the province and is currently underway in Alexandra.
“#OperationRestore is currently underway in Alexandra township in Gauteng Province and is led by the Acting Gauteng PC, Maj Gen Mbele, JHB District Commissioner Maj Gen Masha & Operational Commander Maj Gen Mthombeni, with National Head Office and Provincial Support.”

Numerous arrests confirmed
In line with this, authorities confirmed that over 200 suspects have been taken into custody on charges of being in the country illegally.
“A total of 209 people have been arrested thus far for allegedly being in the country illegally. 116 of them were arrested in Diepkloof, Soweto, 49 were arrested in Hillbrow, whereas 44 were arrested in Alexandra.”

Additionally, another suspect was taken into custody for the possession of illicit substances, while another was nabbed for possession of ammunition.
“One person was also arrested for possession of illegal drugs and another person was arrested for illegal possession of ammo. Stop and searches, inspection at business premises and routine policing continue in the area.”

Another report indicated that several undocumented foreigners, working at a Gauteng butchery, had also been taken into custody during the operation.
