Police: Skull and bones of man found on Free State farm

‘The skull and other bones were scattered around the scene,’ said a Free State police spokesperson on Tuesday.

Free State police made a grisly discovery on Tuesday morning, 16 August, at the Toekoms Boerdery Verda Farm. Human remains were found in a dry ravine and the authorities are seeking the next of kin of the deceased.

POLICE FIND SKELETAL REMAINS ON FARM

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said “the skull and bones were scattered around the scene.”

According to the police report, it is suspected that the skeletal remains belong to a man. A pair of blue jeans and a brown belt – both labelled “Identity” – were found on the body along with a pair of Yellow All Star shoes and a pink jacket.

The remains were taken to the State Mortuary in Phuthaditjhaba by the provincial pathology services.

In an unrelated incident in KwaZulu-Natal, the dead body of a woman in her twenties was found in Mid Illovo sugarcane fields. She was burnt beyond recognition. Her body was discovered when farmworkers investigated the cause of a fire in the fields.
