“During a further search, two fake SAPS appointment cards were discovered,” added Mbambo. “They were all confiscated including the vehicle that was used in the commission of crime.”

The confiscated weapons will be sent for ballistic testing in order to determine if they were used in other crimes, according to the police.

The five arrested suspects – four men and a woman aged between 30 and 41 – will appear before the Helibron Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 9 July, where they will face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition; conspiracy to commit crime and impersonating a police officer.

“…further investigations will also be conducted to establish possible linkage of the suspects to other crimes,” said Mbambo.
