Police call for assistants to rearrest prison escapees

Police say the suspects are believed to be Mozambican nationals who escaped from police holding cells in Phalaborwa.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in  Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers has appealed to the members of the community to assist with information that can lead to the rearrest of two male suspects.

The suspects are believed to be Mozambican Nationals who escaped from police holding cells in Phalaborwa on Friday morning, 05 May 2023.

“The suspects were nabbed for charges of tampering with essential infrastructure at Phalaborwa Mining Company (PMC).”

It is reported that two male suspects were arrested by a Security Company outside the mine and they called the police who immediately responded.

“The suspects were then driven to the Police Station before escaping afterwards. The circumstances surrounding the suspects’ escape from Police Lawful Custody is subject of internal Investigation,” explained Colonel Ledwaba.

“Anyone with information that can assist with the rearrest of Roger Mthembu (42) and Makalani Malembe (47) believed to be residents from Tembisa in Gauteng Province is requested to contact the Investigating Officer Lieutenant Colonel Freddie Lubbe on 082 573 3601. Tip-offs can also be submitted by calling Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or by using the My SAPS App,” he urged.
He further assured that Police are investigations the matter.

POLICE REARREST WANTED EASTERN CAPE CRIMINAL


Meanwhile, another rapist who escaped from a prison in the Eastern Cape on Freedom Day, 27 April, was rearrested.

On Wednesday, 3 May, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) confirmed Athini Nothi Mzingelwa was rearrested following his escape from the Nqeleni Correctional Centre along with Siyabulela Khohliso.
Mzingelwa was nabbed near Mthatha General Hospital at approximately 11:00. Kholiso was recaptured in Libode on Sunday.
