The South African Police arrested five suspects and confiscated drugs worth R770 000 on the N1 between Laingsburg and Beaufort West.

POLICE SAY DRUGS WERE DESTINED FOR CAPE TOWN

Investigations revealed that the drugs were destined for distribution in Cape Town.

On Monday, 20 March 2023, at 00:15, Beaufort West police members conducted patrols on the N1 near Beaufort West when they noticed a suspicious vehicle along the road.

A search of the vehicle led to confiscating of 28,8 kilograms of dagga with an estimated street value of R57 600-00. Police seized the dagga and arrested three occupants, aged between 36 and 41, on a drug dealing charge.

POLICE ARRESTED FIVE SUSPECTS FOR POSSESSION OF DRUG

The Cape Metropole trio already made their first court appearance in Beaufort West today, 22 March 2023. This matter was postponed to 27 June 2023 for further investigation. The accused are out on R3 000 bail each.

Meanwhile, later the same day, 20 March 2023, at about 02:30, Western Cape Provincial traffic officials also confiscated 31 bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R721 000-00 found in the trailer of a minibus taxi.

A TAXI DRIVER WAS ALSO ARRESTED

Both the driver and passenger were arrested on charges of dealing drugs.

The accused, aged 26 and 37, appeared on the mentioned charge in the Laingsburg Magistrates’ Court. They were remanded in custody, and the case was postponed to 29 March 2023 for bail information.

A preliminary investigation into the find indicates that the consignments were destined for delivery in the Cape Metropole.

Western Cape police management commended the concerted efforts of law enforcement officials who are instrumental in eradicating drug trafficking in the province.
