The South African Police arrested two suspects, aged 28 and 34, and seized 15 stolen bank cards and an undisclosed amount of cash in East London on Wednesday, 15 March 2023.

SUSPECTS HAD DIFFERENT BANK CARDS AND CASH

A multi-disciplinary operation conducted by Flying Squad members, a private Security Company, and the Community Police Forum (CPF) resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the discovery of various stolen bank cards and cash.

It is alleged that Wednesday, 15 March 2023, at about 09:30, the team followed information of a suspected vehicle allegedly used to scam innocent victims of their bank cards.

The vehicle was spotted, and during the search, police discovered about 15 different bank cards and an undisclosed amount of money. Some of the bank cards were stolen in February 2023.

Two suspects face charges of the possession of suspected stolen bank cards and fraud.

In an unrelated incident, the HAWKS arrested a Tshwane Metro Police officer on a charge. The metro police officer solicited money from a motorist. The suspect appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on 13 March.

The 36-year-old Lerato Ruth Zungu officer faces fraud charges after she reportedly solicited money from a motorist.

The metro police officer is due back in court on 12 May 2023, pending further investigation. Zungu is out on R2 000 bail.
