The suspect in the murder of an 80-year-old woman almost got away with his crime – but not quite. Police arrested the 27-year-old on Monday 27 September in Musina, Limpopo while trying to make an international switch to Zimbabwe.

ACCUSED CAUGHT DRIVING DEAD WOMAN’S CAR

The accused was caught driving the wrong vehicle. He was behind the wheel of the car that had gone missing from the murder scene of Martha Louisa, 80, who was found dead in a ghastly crime scene last Thursday.

“A 27-year-old suspect arrested for brutally killing an 80-years-old woman, Martha Louisa, whose body was found in her house on Thursday 23 September 2021,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo via IOL.

“[The suspect] will this morning (Tuesday) appear in the Makhado Magistrate’s Court.”

GRUESOME MURDER CASE

The arrested suspect at the Limpopo border is now expected to answer questions relating to the very heinous murder case. The murdered 80-year-old woman was found brutally killed in Louis Trichardt last Thursday.

“The police in Makhado have launched a manhunt for the suspect(s) who brutally murdered an 80-year-old woman whose body was found in a pool of blood in Louis Trichardt town on Thursday night, 23 September 2021 at about 19h00,” SAPS reported.

The discovery of the woman’s body came after her police officer son had tried to contact his mom, before his worst nightmare was realised: his mom had been murdered in cold blood.

“The deceased’s son, who is a Warrant Officer in the South African Police Service, reportedly tried to call his mother several times on Wednesday, 22 September 2021, with no success. He then allegedly sent his partner to his mother’s house.

“On arrival at the house, she apparently knocked several times without an answer and when entering the house, she allegedly found the old woman lying in a pool of blood.”

“The police were called and upon arrival at the scene, the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood with deep laceration wounds.”

“The motive for the incident is unknown at this stage and a case of murder has been opened. Police investigation continues.”

Police sent out a message to the murdered woman’s former Zimabwean employee, Trevor Gumbu, to get in touch with the cops for a chat.

“Police call upon Trevor Gumbu, a Zimbabwean national who is said to be the deceased’s former employee, to visit Makhado police station or visit the nearest police station in order to assist with investigations in this matter,” the report concluded.
