Pilot killed in light aircraft accident on the West Rand

Paramedics said the only person on board of the light aircraft was declared dead on the scene in Westonaria on the West Rand on Saturday.

A pilot was killed in a light aircraft accident on Saturday in crash in Syferfontein in Westonaria on the West Rand.

THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON

According to Netcare911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst, paramedics responded to the accident at around 12:08 on Saturday afternoon.

He said reports indicated that a light aircraft had impacted the ground close to a nearby airfield.

THE ONLY PERSON ON BOARD WAS KILLED

“The only occupant on board, an adult male, showed no signs of life and was sadly declared deceased on the scene,” Herbst said.

He furthermore said the circumstances leading up to the incident are not known, however all relevant authorities were on scene.

SECOND LIGHT AIRCRAFT IN ONE WEEK IN GAUTENG

Earlier this week, another pilot died when his two-seater light aircraft crashed in the Bronkhorstspruit Nature Reserve in Bronkhorstspruit, Pretoria on Tuesday.

“When medics arrived on the scene, they found the crumbled remains of a two-seater light aircraft. One person, an adult male, who was also the only occupant on board was assessed, however, showed no signs of life and was sadly declared deceased on the scene.”

THE PILOT WAS KILLED IN THE ACCIDENT ON TUESDAY

Herbst said all necessary authorities were on scene.
