‘I will miss him dearly’: De Lille’s husband passes away after long illness

Edwin de Lille – husband of Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Patricia de Lille – passed away late on Sunday night.

The family of Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Patricia de Lille released a statement regarding the death of a loved one. According to the brief statement, De Lille’s husband Edwin passed away on Sunday night 7 February 2021 after battling a long illness. 

The pair were married for 49 years and had one child, Alistair de Lille. 

‘OUR MARRIAGE WAS BUILT ON RESPECT’ – DE LILLE 

De Lille paid tribute to her husband as a loving father and husband who supported her throughout her political career giving her the freedom to fully pursue her work in

serving the country.

Describing their lifelong partnership she said: “Our marriage was built on respect. Eddie was a true partner in the sense of the word and never stopped me from following my convictions. There was respect and support until his final days and I will miss him dearly”.

POLITICIANS SYMPATHISE

EFF leader Julius Malema responded to the sad news on De Lille’s Twitter timeline saying; “Our condolences Minister”. 

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi also responded saying; “Sincere condolences Auntie Pat… May his soul rest in perfect peace”.  

Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation Lindiwe Sisulu said the hardest time comes when we have to lose a loved one.

“My sincerest condolences, Minister. We are living in difficult times and the hardest of times come when losing our loved ones. I wish you and the rest of the family strength, comfort and peace.”

De Lille is the founder of GOOD – a South African political party that was formed in December 2018.
