Parliament debate on Ramaphosa’s SONA

Members of the National Assembly (NA) and the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday to debate the SONA.

Members of Parliament are expected to take on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) this week.

FIRST DAY OF THE DEBATE UNDERWAY

The anticipated 2-day debate will be on top of the Parliament’s agenda this week. 

Members of the National Assembly (NA) and the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will meet today and Wednesday to debate the SONA. The President will then respond to the debate on Thursday. The EFF is once again, expected to disrupt proceedings.

The EFF gave the National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, 48 hours to apologise. They also want the speaker to withdraw the decision to allow armed members of the police service into the parliament on Thursday. 

EFF members were forcefully removed after charging onto the stage and disrupting Ramaphosa’s address. 

African Transformation Movement (ATM) leader, Vuyo Zungula also wants to take legal action against the speaker. Zungula was also removed from the Cape Town City Hall during Thursday’s address.

EFF REMOVED DURING THE SONA PROCEEDINGS

As previously reported by The South African, Magwenya shared these remarks during a media briefing on Sunday.

This comes after the EFF and African Transformation Movement leader, Vuyo Zungula were removed from the Cape Town City Hall during Thursday evening’s State of the Nation Address. According to Magwenya Ramaphosa kept his composure throughout the evening.

EFF TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION

Malema further stated that the party will be taking legal action.

“She cannot take me out of Parliament without calling my name three times, and warning me three times. When you abandon the rules of Parliament for emotions, this is what happens” Malema said.

EFF leader Julius Malema said they want an apology from National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula. If there is no apology within 48 hours, the party will take the matter to court.
